FilmSquare Film Festival

FILMSQUARE Summer Film Festival

The FILMSQUARE festival also brings art to the film town of Trenčianske Teplice.

Since 2020, FILM SQUARE has been bringing the concept of a modern film event taking place on the renovated Peace Square in Trenčín.

The FILM SQUARE FEST venue will also be expanded this year to include the traditional festival location – the Spa Park in Trenčianske Teplice. In 2024, we plan to continue the renewed tradition of presenting awards for significant artistic contributions on the Bridge of Fame in the Spa Park in Trenčianske Teplice as part of the special Artist’s Mission Award section directed by its founder, Peter Hledík. The award will be personally received by artists Kamila Magálová, Luděk Sobota and Jiří Suchý.
As part of the AMA section, we will also present films by award-winning artists in the LD PAX social hall.
Trenčianske Teplice Film Festival

FILM SQUARE gradually builds on the long-standing tradition of film festivals in Trenčín and Trenčianske Teplice. Unique film experiences will also be enriched by the possibility of personal meetings with film makers and award-winning artists. From the history of film festivals in Trenčianske Teplice

“In 1993, the first annual international film festival Art Film was held in Trenčianske Teplice. Two years later, the tradition of awarding domestic and international actors began. After Franco Nero, Gina Lollobrigida, Jozef Króner, and Vlastimil Brodsky, the names of dozens of prominent artists were added to the Bridge of Fame. Each of them traveled to Trenčianske Teplice, personally attached a brass plaque with their name to the bridge, and took a crystal copy of it home.

After 23 years, the festival moved to Košice in 2016. However, the tradition of the film event, especially the awarding of prominent film personalities, remained in Trenčianske Teplice. After 2016, awards were given in Trenčianske Teplice to, for example, Miro Žbirka, Claudia Cardinale, Chiara Mastroianni, Béla Tarr and Marek Leščák.

Since 2022, the award with a changed name, but with the same content – Umelcova Missia, Artist’s Mission Award – has been a separate section of the Film Square Trenčín festival. After Marta Kubišová in 2022, Václav Neckář and Vica Kerekes were awarded in 2023.

In the future, the organizers, in cooperation with the city of Trenčín, plan to return the festival to the way we knew it in the days when 20 to 30 thousand spectators regularly came to Trenčianske Teplice for an eight-day celebration of film and creators.

We are currently preparing a new modern form of the festival event that responds to changes in the audiovisual space and with which we want to create a broad space for film art, for film creators, for film viewers and for all who seek life values in culture and art, together with the Spa and the City.”

– Peter Hledík, Slovak film director, screenwriter and vice president of the Art Film Fest Trenčianske Teplice festival.
